Emerald’s workplace diversity and inclusivity initiative proves a success in its first year
Stride celebrates different personality traits, providing the right working environment for diversity to flourish.

strongly believes that a diverse workforce leads to better decisions and improved organizational performance. With this in mind, a workplace gender diversity and inclusivity initiative known as Stride
was launched at the beginning of 2016 to promote inclusion in the workplace, with a strong focus on gender diversity.
Following a very successful year, the programme continues into 2017 empowering employees with an over-arching theme for this year of ‘thinking beyond the stereotype’.
A number of high profile speakers such as Diane Bartoli - General Manager for Amazon Education; Jennifer Holloway - author of Personal Branding for Brits
; Julie Creffield - writer of the Fat Girls Guide to Running blog
; and Baroness Eaton - member of the House of Lords and former leader of Bradford Council delivered presentations and held interactive sessions with Emerald employees during 2016. They discussed their life experiences, how they progressed throughout their professions and the various career enhancing skills anyone can adopt, regardless of age, gender or current role.
This year, a wide range of activities have been planned with a strong focus on unconscious bias and diverse personalities – to celebrate and embrace diversity within Emerald Group, and to highlight how inherent biases can affect both career and life choices. Employees will have the opportunity to learn new and develop existing life skills to enhance their career development, including how to effectively break down stereotypes to aid their career progression.
The first session of 2017 will be held by Tom Smith, Product Director at Lane4
. He will be holding an informative and interactive session for employees to help them understand and explore the concept of unconscious bias. He will talk through the different types of biases and help participants explore ways to develop a learning mind-set.

We’ve had some influential speaker and panel sessions from internal and external representatives throughout the year, providing our employees with take-away skills and thought-provoking advice.
“We’re excited about the 2017 programme of events as we take forward this initiative, and encourage all employees, regardless of age, role or gender to take part in these sessions and hope they add to their enjoyment of working at Emerald, as well as providing a strong message both internally and externally that we are committed to diversity at all levels in our organisation.”
