Emerald achieves best ever Impact Factor results

Rapid progress on citation indicators of influence, part of Emerald’s wider real impact agenda

Bingley, United Kingdom, 27 June 2018 – Emerald is proud to have achieved its best ever Impact Factor results, as it continues to celebrate research impact in all its forms.
Highlights in the data release of the 2017 Journal Citation Reports (JCR) from Clarivate Analytics include:
  • overall citations up by 41%
  • 93% of Emerald titles see an increase in citations
  • average Impact Factor increased by 25%, with 77% of Emerald titles seeing higher Impact Factors
  • the fifteen journals receiving their first ever Impact Factor scored particularly well, with an average new Impact Factor of 1.891
  • there are now five titles with an Impact Factor over 3.000, 20 titles with an Impact Factor greater than 2.000, double last year's total.
International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management has achieved an Impact Factor of 4.215, while Internet Research scored 3.838; Supply Chain Management 3.833; Journal of Intellectual Capital 3.634; and Journal of Service Management 3.414.
Tony Roche, Publishing & Strategic Relationship Director at Emerald, said: "We're extremely pleased with our performance in this year's Impact Factors, which is down to the great work of our authors, editors, reviewers and Publishing team.
"These great results are indicative of the ever-increasing quality and relevance of our journal content.
"Impact Factors and other measures of influence continue to form an important part of the broader impact blend. As a leading publisher in the applied fields, we understand there is a growing need to help researchers prove their work is making a difference, particularly at a time when funding is increasingly dependent on being able to demonstrate change in practice, policy and wider society.
"So, whilst welcoming these results, we are also supporting the community to overcome barriers to impact, challenging the sector to shift beyond metrics, and investing to drive wider impact literacy."
Emerald's 'Real Impact' initiative and the 'Real Impact Manifesto' released in Spring 2018 set out this commitment to supporting meaningful, real world impact.
Emerald's role is moving beyond that of a traditional publisher, and extending to help give researchers and their institutions the means to demonstrate the impact and positive change their work is creating in the real world.
