Beyond BIM: Navigating the Transformative Journey of the AECO Industry

Closes:
Submission deadline date: 31 July 2024

The concept of Building Information Modelling (BIM) is considered to be among the most advanced technologies that have permeated the AECO industry. However, relying solely on BIM may no longer be the most effective approach for improving efficacy within the AECO industry.

Technological advancements, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Twins, are now emerging as potential game changers for all sectors of the AECO industry. The emergence of these technological innovations presents the potential to generate promising opportunities and propel progressive advancement beyond BIM within the AECO industry. Despite the significant potential benefits available to the AECO industry, research in this area has been scarce. Therefore, this Special Issue aims to address this gap by focusing on the methods, processes, and technologies that will emerge due to BIM empowerment coupled with recent technological innovations.

The intention is to provide a platform for global researchers in AECO-related fields to bring together their efforts on embracing new technological innovations beyond BIM; it, therefore, broadens the scope of the existing literature, which is primarily focused on isolated BIM adoption and capabilities.

List of topic areas

This Special Issue endeavours to extend the scope beyond mere adoption and implementation of BIM. The focus encompasses a comprehensive examination of associated subjects, including but not limited to:

  • The future of BIM in a disrupted industry
  • Integration of Artificial Intelligence and BIM
  • Integration of Digital Twin and BIM
  • Integration of Internet of Things (IoT) and BIM
  • Disruption of the human side of engagement with BIM
