CALL FOR PAPERS

Special Issue on "Sustainable and Smart Maritime and Port Logistics"
of the XXV International Conference on Material Handling, Constructions and Logistics (MHCL 2024)

As part of the International Conference MHCL 2024, a special session on Maritime and Port Logistics (MPL) is calling for papers on Sustainable and Smart Maritime and Port Logistics. This Special Session will be held in Bar (Montenegro) from 1st to 3rd July, 2024 and in Wien (Austria) from 18th to 20th, September 2024. The best rated papers from this special session will be selected for the Special Issue.

The area of MHCL has been gaining new momentum since the beginning of 21st century. Modern machinery, materials handling and logistics systems today employ fast-developing advanced technologies, which require deep interdisciplinary expertise to ensure successful implementation. To address these issues, MHCL conferences have become an important academic event of long history, bringing together leading academic scientists, researchers and research scholars to exchange and share their experiences and research results on related topics. MHCL 2024 is organized by the Engineering Design and Logistics Engineering, Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien), Austria together with the Department of Material Handling, Constructions and Logistics, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Belgrade, Serbia. It will be held in Wien (Austria) from 18th to 20th September 2024.

It has been a tradition of MHCL since 2009 to organize a Special Session E: Maritime and Port Logistics (MPL), which plays a vital role in the global transportation systems. This MPL session is organized twice a year, e.g. in 2022 the First Part of the MPL was held in Belgrade (the Belgrade Conference) and the Second Part of the MPL was held in Bar (the Bar Conference). This year the MPL special session, with the theme of Sustainable and Smart Maritime and Port Logistics, will be organized as two parts again:

  1. Bar (Montenegro) from 1st to 3rd July 2024 and
  2. Wien (Austria) from 18th to 20th September 2024.

As part of the MHCL 2024 International Conference, the Maritime and Port Logistics (MPL) is calling for papers on the Sustainable and Smart MPL. The Bar Conference and Wien Conference provide the interdisciplinary forums for exchange of ideas of new results and crucial achievements in the MPL field. These Conferences try to enlarge international networks among scholars, researchers and practitioners in MPL. This time through the Sustainable and Smart MPL, the current and future trends will be highlighted and new useful information sharing inside the MPL community. These events may contribute really to improving the MPL concept.

Managing the Sustainable and Smart MPL is an important issue in maritime and port logistics with twofold impact. The first one encompasses a variety of methodologies used to lessen the environmental impact caused by the maritime industry, whilst the second puts pressure on applying and using SMART technologies in MPL.

The contemporary MPL framework is driven by smart technologies. The decision-makers and various stakeholders are empowered by big data analytics, Internet of Things, Cloud Computing and Artificial Intelligence to create optimized operations along the whole Supply Chain based on the real time data. That way, the business system enhances sustainability and resistance to many uncertainties which makes stochastic that much more predictable in MPL.

The organizers of MPL of the MHCL - Bar and Wien Conferences cordially invite researchers, academics, practitioners, and students interested in any branch of MPL to submit a paper to this conference to join an open academic discussion on related topics. The papers with theoretical developments and practical applications of Maritime and Port Logistics are very welcome, whilst application case studies and any kind of review papers are also especially welcome.
