Circular supply chain strategy in Industry 4.0 under disruption and ambidexterity: challenges and risks

Closes:

Introduction

The circular supply chain strategy (CSCS) is argued to be an appropriate response to such challenges to manage supply chain activities, processes, and resources with sustainable development as the main target (Tseng et al., 2022a; Tseng et al., 2022b). Nonetheless, CSCS -oriented development will not be possible if firms do not apply appropriate support tools, such as Industry 4.0 (I4.0), with scientific and technical advances. The involvement of I4.0 in technological innovations and manufacturing processes is not only necessary but also generates various opportunities for improving circular performance and expanding sustainability principles (Shayganmehr et al., 2021). Under this situation, firms are unable to stop themselves from employing the CSCS in I4.0 to survive and develop in accordance with the market trend and society's demands. However, there are still problems in specifying the critical attributes that improve the CSCS and identifying the CSCS attributes in I4.0 that need to be addressed to achieve better performance (Tseng et al., 2022b). Hence, this study aims to exploit the CSCS attributes in I4.0 that necessitate discovering proper solutions that help firms overcome such technological adoption challenges.
