Closing date: 31st October 2024

The Journal of Aggression, Conflict and Peace Research is welcoming submissions on the topic of Warfare and War Studies.

About the topic

Warfare has been a defining aspect of human history, shaping societies, cultures, and global politics. As we navigate complex geopolitical landscapes and evolving military technologies, there is a pressing need to critically examine the nature, impact, and consequences of warfare.

This call for papers seeks contributions from scholars and researchers across disciplines to explore various dimensions of warfare and advance our understanding of war studies.

Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

  • Historical Perspectives: Analysing key historical conflicts, strategies, and their long-term impacts on societies and global dynamics.
  • Modern Warfare: Examining contemporary military strategies, tactics, and the role of technology in modern conflicts, including cyber warfare and drone warfare.
  • Ethical and Legal Dimensions: Exploring ethical dilemmas, international law, and human rights considerations in warfare, including issues of proportionality and civilian casualties.
  • Psychological and Sociological Effects: Investigating the psychological trauma of war on combatants and civilians, as well as societal responses to war and militarization.
  • War and Media: Analysing the role of media, propaganda, and information warfare in shaping public perceptions and narratives during conflicts.
  • Peace and Conflict Resolution: Examining strategies for conflict resolution, peacebuilding, and post-war reconstruction efforts in war-torn regions.
  • Emerging Threats: Addressing new and emerging challenges in warfare, such as hybrid warfare, bioterrorism, and the militarization of outer space.

We invite submissions of original research papers, case studies, systematic reviews, and theoretical contributions that contribute to the ongoing dialogue in war studies. Interdisciplinary approaches and comparative studies are encouraged.

Accepted papers will be considered for publication in a special issue or edited volume on Warfare and War Studies.
