To mark its fiftieth anniversary, History of Education Review is launching a new journal section, which will curate a series of short historiographical essays (3,000-5,000 words).

Authors are invited to submit papers which reflect on the past, present and/or future of the field of the history of education, broadly conceived, from the perspective of some of its key tools, building blocks, and/or principles. This might include

• accounts of theoretical perspectives that have been, are, or should (or should not) be influential in shaping the field,
• or histories of transformative methodologies,
• or extended critical, historiographical re-readings of books and scholars.

The aim of the journal section is to inaugurate new conversations about what is important in the history of education and how we, as communities of scholars, have gone about our work in the past, and will – or ought to – attend to it in the future.

We are hoping that this will be a conversation in which scholars from all career stages will participate. We particularly encourage work from newer scholars.

All papers will be subject to the journal’s usual processes of rigorous peer review.
