Doctor José A.F.O. Correia, Co-Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Structural Integrity, was distinguished with the PTMTS Award of Merit 2023 for the outstanding contribution to structural integrity given by the Polish Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. Since 2019, Doctor José A.F.O. Correia is included in the world's top 2% scientists list of the Stanford University ranking.

José António Fonseca de Oliveira Correia, better known as José A.F.O. Correia, was born in 1984 in Peso da Régua, Portugal, and currently, He is a Researcher at CONSTRUCT|Faculty Engineering and INEGI of the University of Porto (UPorto | Portugal). Since 2018, he is a Guest Teacher at the Engineering Structures Department of the Civil Engineering and Geosciences Faculty of the Delft University of Technology (Netherlands). He was an Invited Professor at the structural mechanics section in the Civil Engineering Department of the University of Coimbra (since 2016/09-2021/08). He was an Associate Professor by invitation at the Engineering Department of the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD, 2022/03-2023/02). Additionally, Doctor José A.F.O. Correia has several honorary positions attributed by institutions of world reference: - Adjunct Professor at the Xi'an Jiaotong University (China); - Guest Professor at NIT Silchar (India); and, - Guest Professor at São Paulo State University (Brazil).

In 2023, José A.F.O. Correia received nomination and appointment as a member of the Scientific Research Honor Society - SIGMA Xi, in recognition of his achievements and academic contributions to the advancement of knowledge in his scientific field.

Since 2019, People magazine has included José A.F.O Correia in the PeopleAI database, where his net recognition/impact is calculated by comparing the José A.F.O. Correia’s influence on Google, Wikipedia, Youtube, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook with anyone else in the world.

He is co-author of more than 230 scientific journal papers in the most relevant scientific journals devoted to structural integrity, fatigue, and fracture of metallic materials and structures, more than 200 proceedings in international and national conferences, congresses, and workshops, co-author of 18 book chapters, and editor and/or co-author of 22 books (15 completed; 7 ongoing).

Proof of the international recognition of the scientific activities developed by Doctor José A.F.O. Correia were the recent appointments, 2017 and 2020,  as a co-chairman of the technical committees called "ESIS TC12 - Risk analysis and safety of large structures and components" and "ESIS TC3 - Fatigue of Engineering Materials and Structures", respectively, of the European Structural Integrity Society (ESIS). He is a member of technical committees, CEN TC250 SC3 WG 1-9 Fatigue, CEN TC250 SC3 WG 1-10 Fracture, and CEN/CLC/JTC 20 Hyperloop systems, of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN).
