Sustainable Business Consortium:

Consortium Chair: Amr Elalfy, Qatar University

This consortium acts as a bridge between the academia and the industry. It brings together scholars, policymakers, managers, and the community at large. The purpose of the consortium is to provide networking opportunities for scholars to communicate their practice-relevant findings as well as establish research collaborations between academics and the business communities to tackle problems we face.

Conference Overview Organizations play a crucial role in addressing societal problems such as climate change, food and water scarcity, social inequality, and energy insecurity, among others. They respond to these challenges by creating novel solutions and opportunities for change. To deepen our understanding of how organizations can help tackle these challenges, we welcome papers that investigate this theme theoretically and empirically. We also encourage contributions on how organizations are incorporating sustainability – policies and practices that “meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”1 . We welcome scholars and practitioners from around the world to join us in person, in Doha, to discuss the conference themes, which includes but are not limited to the following:

  • The role of firms in climate change mitigation
  • Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and net-zero targets
  • Digitization, disruptive technologies and platforms
  • Social entrepreneurship, frugal innovation and sustainable business models
  • Industry 4.0 and sustainability
  • Energy transition and security
  • Smart and sustainable cities
  • Pedagogy for sustainability
  • Sustainable investment and corporate social responsibility
  • Crisis management and organizational resilience

Even though we are interested in proposal abstracts on the conference theme, we welcome submissions on topics within the broader business research.
