Special issue call for papers from Advances in Librarianship
Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities and the Inclusive Future of Libraries is an edited volume from the Advances in Librarianship book series that focuses on the range of issues at the intersection of disability, accessibility, inclusion, and libraries.
Academic, public, school, and special libraries all have patrons and staff members with disabilities, making equitable service a priority for these organizations designed to serve their entire communities.
The provision of equitable service for persons with disabilities has become more challenging in the recent years of rapid technological change and content increasingly being provided – and its level of accessibility determined – by vendors outside of the library. The same technologies, however, also provide incredible opportunities to expand the accessibility of library services and create innovative new services for patrons with disabilities, such as accessible maker spaces.
This book, edited by Brian Wentz, Paul Jaeger, and John Bertot, will include essays devoted to the following themes:
- Current state of laws, policies, and professional standards related to accessibility in libraries
- Research about levels of library accessibility
- Case studies and best practices from libraries providing inclusive services to patrons with disabilities
- Case studies and best practices in accessibility outside of the library domain that can inform library practice
- Emerging and future technology trends that provide challenges and opportunities relating to accessibility in libraries
- Ways in which libraries can conduct and promote research to improve accessibility
Contributors will represent researchers, educators, and practitioners from a range of fields, and the book will be intended to be an important resource for library professionals in all types of libraries as well as a reference for researchers and educators about all types of libraries.
