Managing and Analyzing Big Social Media Data

The Digital Information Supply Chain for Social Media Data

Special issue call for papers from Information Discovery and Delivery

Social media in general and social networks in particular have emerged to be areas of interest in the last decade, not only in information technology and computer science, but also in other disciplines such as sociology, business and politics, because of their rapid growth of user numbers and their various applications. Social media data are leading exemplars of the recent “Big Data” research field. The high volume and diversity of digital social data sources that are aggregating rapidly makes them difficult to process, manage and deliver making it difficult to create value.

Most research in this area focuses on how to analyze a single and limited social media dataset without considering difficulties in managing the underlying Big Data challenges, including source diversity, data variety and data velocity. This special issue fills this gap by analyzing big data management, including infrastructure, technologies, methodologies, tools and applications. We focus on the information supply chain for social media data, which is shown to be the best way to process this kind of data.

We invite authors to submit their original research papers related (but not limited) to the following topics:

  • Social Media data format and micro format
  • Social Media data collection and preparation
  • Social Media data extraction
  • Design/Structure of the Social Media database
  • NoSQL social media data management
  • Fusion and integration of Social Media data
  • Big data frameworks for social network analysis
  • Direct and indirect techniques for linking social media data sources
  • Technical Architectures and frameworks for social data management
  • Social Media data for recommendation Systems
  • Quality, veracity and value of Social Media data
  • Social Media data visualization
  • Social Media data warehousing and mining
  • Performance Evaluation based on Social Media data
  • Exchange and sharing of Social Media data
  • Tracking on the change of Social Media data
  • Digital rights management of Social Media data
  • Delivery of social media data
  • Real time analysis of Social Media data
  • Spatio-temporal analysis of social media data
  • Large scale anomaly detection in social media
  • Privacy and Security issues related to Social Media
