Summary

The
International Journal of Sustainability in Higher Education is calling for papers for a special issue on "Sustainability Funding in Higher Education". A broad understanding of the financial challenges to achieving sustainability in higher education institutions has become more important in recent years. This is so due to the instability of government funding to education, competing funding priorities, inconsistency in the objectives of government funding to sustainable development initiatives, among others.

This special issue is expected to fill the gap in how to foster initiatives and models with approaches that can mitigate the severity of an unsustainable financial trend. There is very little literature on diagnosing the funding of sustainability initiatives in higher education, especially when it comes to comparative studies between countries and regions. Higher education systems are under increasing pressure to develop solutions that may support sustainable development efforts at the institutional level. Yet, limited funding is known to hinder such efforts. This special issue will thus contribute to the provision of sustainable financial models in higher education, from a social, economic, political and environmental perspective.

Topics for submissions include, but are not limited to:

1.    Financial models and sustainability of higher education.
2.    Effective operating cost and sustainability of higher education.
3.    Sources of funding and sustainability of higher education.
4.    Financing of curricula in achieving sustainability in higher education.

5.    The competitive advantage in the shift towards the sustainability of higher education.
6.    Challenges in sustainability of higher education.
7.    Quality assurance and sustainability of higher education.
8.    Governance and sustainability of higher education.
