The mission of Journal of Management Development is to publish academic research that tests, extends or develops management theory and contributes to enhance the field of management development, practice, and research.

Aims and scope

More specifically,the Journal of Management Development seeks to publish papers that asks and helps to answer important and interesting questions in management development, develops or tests theory, extends prior studies, explores interesting phenomena, reviews and synthesizes existing research. All empirical methods including - but not limited to - qualitative, quantitative, field, laboratory, meta-analytic and mixed-methods are welcome. 

Editorial criteria

Manuscripts should make strong empirical and theoretical contributions should highlight the relevance of those contributions to management development. Manuscripts should be of a conceptual/theoretical nature that includes practical application, based on practical experience/research, report a case study situation or any combination thereof. The prime requirement for acceptance of an article will be that it:

  • is directly relevant to management development;
  • makes a significant original contribution to the field; 
  • contains elements which have general application; and
  • is within the scope of the journal coverage.
