Editorial objectivesA CIB-encouraged journal.

The International Journal of Building Pathology and Adaptation (formerly Structural Survey: Journal of Building Pathology and Refurbishment) publishes findings on contemporary and original research towards sustaining, maintaining and managing the built estate. Approximately 80% of our existing building stock will be with us in 2050 which demands the careful maintenance, adaptation and conservation of this vitally important resource. With rapid technological developments, a changing climate and more extreme weather, coupled with developing societal demands, the challenges to the professions responsible are complex and varied; solutions need to be rigorously researched and investigated to navigate this highly dynamic context in which todays buildings are to be sustained.

The journal aims to publish rigorous research articles, case studies and reviews concerning innovative investigations on topics related to the technical and pathological issues associated with maintaining and conserving buildings; the refurbishment and adaptation of existing buildings in response to the environmental, technological and societal developments and challenges. Particular emphasis is placed on the emerging environmental challenges associated with sustaining the modern built environment.
