Social enterprise is a powerful global concept, describing businesses with primarily social objectives whose surpluses are principally re-invested for that purpose in businesses or in the community. Scholarly interest in social enterprise has progressed beyond the early focus on definitions and context to investigate their formation, management, distinctive international differences, and social value creation. SEJ has been a trail blazer in the development of this field, being the first journal to focus specifically on this aspect on entrepreneurial activity. It continues to expand its influential position in the establishment and advancement of the field by encouraging interdisciplinary and critical studies of social enterprise.
The SEJ supports this advancement by deepening our understanding of social enterprise and social entrepreneurship. We invite scholars and practitioners to examine the phenomena of social enterprise and present their research work to SEJ.
The editorial team has consciously chosen to open the door wide to all scholars from a range of disciplines publishing social enterprise research. The aim is to encourage knowledge sharing across disciplines to generate stronger research overall in the field. The SEJ will accept rigorous research papers that address key aspects. Issues of importance, which can be addressed at a global, national and/or individual social enterprise level, include but are not limited to:
Social enterprise is increasingly recognized for its economic, social and environmental contribution to society. A wealth of research is emerging in this field. This journal provides a dedicated outlet for this research and a forum for debate.
