Submission guidelines
We are pleased to announce the call for manuscripts for the book series entitled Emerald Critical Studies in Inclusion, Practice, and Impact. This series serves as an ideal platform and outlet for ground-breaking research, case studies, and new critical insights in the field of inclusion and practice, offering a primary platform for the rapid dissemination of world-leading research.
The Emerald Critical Studies in Inclusion, Practice, and Impact series seeks to attract both early career and established researchers who are producing innovative and cutting-edge research on inclusion and its impact. We invite contributions from scholars working in the field of inclusion research and practice, as well as academics from the higher education sector in the UK and around the world. By including diverse perspectives, we aim to ensure that the series appeals to global audiences in both the global North and South.
The series publishes a combination of cutting-edge research that focuses on how to implement and measure impactful inclusion in various contexts, ranging from applied and theoretical frameworks to comparative studies. This comprehensive approach aims to fill the current gap in research-informed and evaluated guidance on inclusion in higher education and related industries and communities. By providing a collection of critical case studies, the series offers new insights into equity and inequity, serving as a valuable resource for practitioners interested in making their sectors and practices more inclusive.
A unique aspect of this series is the format of the published books. We would like each contribution to explicitly address theory, application, and provide a thorough discussion on ""how to"" model inclusion or assess its impact. To ensure consistency, we invite authors to present each manuscript will follow the following structure:
- The first section of each text will focus on discussing the knowledge and theory within which the case study is situated.
- The middle section will delve into the empirical application, findings, and comprehensive discussions.
- The final section or chapter will explicitly and expansively discuss the generation of recommendations as policy briefs and reflections on what works for facilitating explicit change in practice, cultures, and policy.
We kindly invite you to submit your manuscript for consideration in the Emerald Critical Studies in Inclusion, Practice, and Impact series. We encourage original research, case studies, and theoretical contributions that advance the understanding of inclusion and its practical implementation. Submissions should be prepared according to the guidelines.

This impactful series provides a platform for innovative research and critical insights on inclusion and diversity. Featuring global perspectives, the series addresses inclusion in various sectors through case studies and theoretical frameworks, making it a key resource for advancing equity and inclusivity.
Aims and scope
The Emerald Critical Studies in Inclusion, Practice, and Impact series addresses the urgent need for research-informed and practically evaluated guidance on inclusion within higher education (HE) and related industries.
By offering a rich collection of critical case studies, the series provides new insights into issues of equity and inequity. Uniquely, it offers explicit guidance for practitioners looking to implement inclusive practices in their own sectors. Through critical, theoretical, and empirically grounded debates, the series explores effective and measurable frameworks for change, providing clear pathways for making inclusion work equitably for diverse target audiences.
At the heart of this series is a commitment to addressing social, structural, and systemic inequalities that manifest in the HE sector and beyond, affecting students, professionals, academic staff, and the broader communities and industries connected to academia. Despite recent strides in identifying disparities in education, particularly concerning race and social background, there remains a significant gap in offering clear, evidence-based frameworks for actionable change. The Emerald Critical Studies series directly responds to this gap, presenting research-informed case studies that illustrate what these processes for change look like in everyday practice, policy, and measurable outcomes.
The series serves as a crucial platform for both early career and established researchers to disseminate cutting-edge research on inclusion and its impact across a global landscape. By welcoming contributions from scholars across the UK, global North, and global South, the series ensures a broad and diverse perspective on inclusion in HE and related fields. With its blend of applied, theoretical, and comparative research, this series not only fills a critical research void but also provides a much-needed resource for practitioners dedicated to advancing inclusion in their own fields.
