Ingrid E. Castro is Professor of Sociology and Chair of the Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work Department at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, USA. Her theoretical and qualitative work focuses on children and young adults, race, gender, and education.

Calls for submissions

In the 1986 inaugural volume of Sociological Studies of Children And Youth, editors Patricia Adler and Peter Adler noted: "the study of children and child development is empirically and theoretically central to the discipline of sociology." Continuing today, SSCH is an outlet for social scientists researching topics related to children or youth.

Aims and scope

Sociological Studies of Children and Youth (SSCY) is proud to be affiliated with members of the American Sociological Association Section on Children and Youth.

The series welcomes individual Guest Editors and monograph authors to develop the titles in this series both in edited and authored formats. The series covers a broad range of topics, often focusing on specific themes in each volume, but also includes diverse chapters on various subjects. Contributions from all methodological and theoretical orientations are welcomed, and all submissions undergo a rigorous peer review process. The series also has a history of publishing work by international scholars and continues to welcome contributions from around the world.

The scope of the series includes:

  • Thematic Volumes: Each volume may emphasize a particular theme, such as children's rights, youth activism, or the impact of technology on young people.
  • Diverse Topics: Some volumes feature a range of chapters on different topics, reflecting the multifaceted nature of sociological research on children and youth.
  • Methodological Diversity: The series encourages contributions from various methodological and theoretical perspectives, fostering a rich and comprehensive understanding of the field.
