Introduction
Mental health is a state of mental well-being that enables individual to freely address the stresses of life and well realize their abilities to learn and work. Mental health issues have become an important health concerns that must be addressed in the process of economic and social development in recent years. The rapid advancement of digital technologies has brought about significant changes in the way mental health services are delivered and managed. For instance, online mental healthcare platforms develop quickly and offer new channels for patients to seek support. However, mental health services still lack digital resources for patients to receive high-quality health service and effective treatment (Zhang et al., 2021). The effect on online professionals’ economic performance should be explored (Yan, Kuang, & Qiu, 2022).
Digital technologies such as AI and big data offer solutions to this dilemma (e.g., Kuang, Xie, & Yan, 2023). With the vigorous development of information technology, especially the new generation of information technologies represented by big data, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, etc., many revolutionary applications are emerging in healthcare industry (Bucci, Schwannauer, & Berry, 2019). How to apply these information technologies and related revolutionary applications to the field of mental health management, including but not limited to detection, diagnosis, intervention, and treatment, and thereby improve the quality of mental health management have great opportunities (Kuang, Yan, & Sun, 2022; Scott, Valley, & Simecka, 2017).
However, the wide use of new technologies also brings lots of challenges for mental health management (Simmons & Katterl, 2024). For example, responsible AI in mental health represents a promising frontier for improving mental health outcomes, offering personalized care, and enhancing the efficiency of mental health services. However, realizing these benefits requires careful consideration of ethical, legal, and social implications, ensuring these technologies serve the best interests of individuals and society (Siala & Wang, 2022).
This special issue aims to explore the opportunities and challenges presented by these technologies within the context of industrial management and data systems. Specifically, we look forward to the studies 1) investigating the role of digital technologies in enhancing mental health management in organizational settings, 2) Exploring the challenges and barriers to the effective integration of digital health solutions for mental well-being, 3) examining the implications of data systems and analytics in understanding and supporting mental health initiatives, and 4) investigating the ethical, privacy, and security considerations in the deployment of digital mental health technologies. We invite researchers, practitioners, and academicians to contribute original research articles, longitudinal studies, case studies, empirical studies, and theoretical perspectives that examine the impact of digital technologies on mental health management.
