The Impacts of China’s International Economic Cooperation on Sustainable Agricultural Development

Closes:
Submission deadline date: 7 October 2024

Introduction

Agriculture plays a crucial role in ensuring global food security, advancing the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and ultimately securing the survival of humanity. While most attention is often focused on investments in infrastructure or energy as tools to promote economic development and growth, agriculture's vital role, particularly in light of the SDGs, deserves greater investigation and emphasis. This special issue uniquely combines the study of agriculture, China’s international cooperation, and the SDGs, thereby deepening our understanding of innovative solutions to sustainable agricultural development from a global perspective.

This special issue is dedicated to gathering research papers on the agricultural effects (including those on cooperative behavior versus competition) resulting from various China-related international and regional economic agreements, whether related to trade, investments, or other economic aspects. Examples of such agreements include the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), among many others. The special issue will fill the literature gap in the field of international economic cooperation and agricultural sustainable development, and provide important reference for the formulation of relevant policies.

We especially welcome submissions from scholars across various disciplines, not just economics, as we believe this topic requires interdisciplinary innovations. The special issue aims to receive contributions from either macroeconomic or microeconomic perspectives. For example, significant contributions may include how the macroeconomy is stimulated under China's international cooperation, promoting sustainable agricultural development. Contributions could also explore how firms’ ESG behaviors are shaped under China's international cooperation and their influence on agricultural development.

By fostering a comprehensive examination of these themes, this special issue aspires to advance our understanding and provide actionable insights for enhancing agricultural  theories and practices.

The authors of the accepted Abstracts will be invited to participate in a hybrid conference (both online and offline presentations will be possible) that will take place in the month of October 2024, before the submission deadline.
