ROBERT HUGH GRAY BSc (Econ), MA (Econ), PhD, FCCA, FCA, MBE, FAcSS, Emeritus Professor (formerly Professor of Social and Environmental Accounting, University of St Andrews, Scotland.
Rob Gray retired from the University of St Andrews in 2015. He is a qualified chartered and chartered certified accountant and he is the author/co-author of over 300 articles, chapters, monographs and books – mainly on social and environmental accounting, sustainability, social responsibility and education.
He founded CSEAR (The Centre for Social and Environmental Accounting Research) in 1991 and for 21 years was its Director. He has served on the editorial boards of over 20 learned journals and travelled extensively overseas in response to academic and professional invitations.
He has worked with a wide range of international and local commercial and non-commercial organisations including collaborations with the United Nations from time to time. In 2001 he was elected the British Accounting Association Distinguished Academic Fellow and in 2004 became one of the 14 founding members of the British Accounting Association Hall of Fame. He was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s 2009 Birthday Honours List and was elected to the Academy of Social Science in 2012.

TREVOR HOPPER

Before joining the University of Sussex, Trevor was a Professor of Accounting at the University of Manchester, where he was Head of Department and Director of Postgraduate Studies and Research. Previously, he was a cost accountant in industry, and secretary of the Management Control Workshop and a member of the "Sheffield School" whilst lecturing at the Universities of Wolverhampton and Sheffield. He has had visiting appointments at the universities of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA; Queens, Canada; Fukuoka and Kyushu, Japan; and Griffith Gold Coast, Australia, and is currently visiting professor at Stockholm School of Economics and the Victoria University of Wellington. He gained a B.Sc (Bus Admin) from Bradford University and an M.Phil from Aston University
Trevor cofounded the Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Accounting Conference and was an editor of the British Accounting Review, associate editor of Critical Perspectives on Accounting, and a guest editor for Accounting, Organizations and Society, the Auditing, Accounting and Accountability Journal, and Management Accounting Research. Currently he is consulting editor for the Journal of Accounting in Emerging Economies and an editorial board member of various international accounting research journals. He has supervised or co-supervised over thirty PhD students.
His research applies organizational and social theories to management controls, such as ABC, ERPs, and WCM, using intensive case study methods, though has occasional makes accounting history and financial accounting contributions. His current interests lie mainly in accounting in developing countries. He was granted a Lifetime Achievement Award by the British Accounting Association and an honorary doctorate by Stockholm School of Economics.

2016 Member: Professor Irvine Lapsley
IRVINE LAPSLEY is Director of the Institute of Public Sector Accounting Research at the University of Edinburgh Business School. His main research interests are in public sector reforms.
He has undertaken research funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, the European Union, the Nuffield Foundation, Leverhulme Trust, the Research Foundation of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland, the British Accounting Association and Government Departments. He has published over 100 articles in journals such as AAAJ, Abacus; Accounting and Business Research; British Accounting Review, Critical Perspectives on Accounting; European Accounting Review; Journal of Accounting and Public Policy; Management Accounting Research and Public Management Review.
He has lectured on his research across Europe and in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. He is Chair of the Scientific Committee of the European Institute of Advanced Studies in Management (EIASM) Public Sector Conference, a co-chair of the EIASM Third Sector Research Workshop and a co-chair of the New Public Sector Seminar.
Irvine Lapsley is Editor of Financial Accountability & Management, the leading international research journal in public sector finance and accounting. He has been Budget Advisor to the Scottish Parliament and has held appointments at the universities of Edinburgh, Stirling and Warwick. He is KEFU Guest Professor at Lund University and Visiting Professor at Trondheim University Business School and Politecnico di Milano. He is Honorary Professor at Queen's University Belfast.

2016 Member: Professor Cheryl Lehman
CHERYL LEHMAN received her PhD from New York University in 1985 and continued pursuing interdisciplinary and critical accounting research, co-founding the Gender Issues Section of the American Accounting Association and instrumental in founding the journal Critical Perspectives on Accounting.

During a 1987 sabbatical at Griffith University, Lee Parker inspired Dr. Lehman’s publication, "Herstory in Accounting: the First Eighty Years", appearing in Accounting Organizations and Society in 1992, and her enduring research on Gender, Ethnicity and Class culminated in the publication, "We’ve come a long way! Maybe! Re-imagining gender and accounting" for the AAAJ Special 25th Anniversary issue in 2012. Now completing 36 years as Professor of Accounting at Hofstra University (NY), she has served on the Board of the distinguished Institute for Women's Policy Research (IWPR), the Warsaw based Network of East-West Women (NEWW) and the Global Share Resource Foundation (GSRF), organizations committed to advancing social justice, stimulating public dialogue, and empowering marginalized populations around the globe.
As a visiting scholar, Dr Lehman has held positions in Australia and England and her research and advocacy venues include Canada, China, Cuba, Hungary, Japan, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Peru, Poland, Russia, Turkey, and Ukraine. A recipient of numerous awards, her promotion of interdisciplinary study is highly regarded and she is currently Editor of Advances in Public Interest Accounting, on the Editorial Board for a dozen journals and has published in numerous international refereed academic journals. Dr. Lehman particularly values and is enthusiastically engaged in supporting critical research for emerging scholars and their innovative explorations.
Dr. Lehman recently received a Masters degree in Social Work (MSW) and a License in Clinical Social Work (LCSW) interning with incarcerated youth and she continues her clinical commitments. Exploring knowledge creation, migration, incarceration, gender, class and ethnicity she remains on the forefront of interdisciplinary research and unconventionality as part of the critical accounting task of transformation: providing pathways for thinking differently and aspiring for change.

KENNETH A. MERCHANT, B.A. Industrial Economics (Union College NY), MBA Production and Operations Research (Columbia), Ph.D. Accounting (University of California, Berkeley). C.P.A. (Certified Public Accountant. CGMA (Certified Global Management Accountant started his professional career at Texas Instructions, Inc. and then Ernst & Ernst (now Ernst & Young).
In 1978, after earning his Ph.D. he joined the faculty of the Harvard Business School, where he spent 12 years. He moved to the University of Southern California in 1990 and subsequently served as Professor, Dean of the Leventhal School of Accounting and Senior Associate Dean of the Marshall School of Business. He currently holds the Deloitte & Touche LLP Chair of Accountancy at USC.
Ken’s research focus is in the areas of management accounting, management control systems, corporate governance, and ethics. He has published extensively, including 10 books and monographs and numerous articles in major academic and professional journals. He has also written over 180 teaching cases. Over the years, Ken has served on the editorial boards of 17 academic journals and as Editor of The Accounting Review and Business Expert Press (management accounting and corporate governance collections).
Ken has received numerous awards, including three Notable Contribution awards and two Lifetime Achievement awards (management accounting and behavioural accounting) from the American Accounting Association, the R. Lee Brummet Distinguished Award for Educators from the Institute of Management Accountants, the Distinguished Achievement in Accounting Education Award from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and an honorary doctorate in economics from the Turku School of Economics (Finland).

JANE BROADBENT, B.A. Sociology (York), M.A. Accounting and Financial Management (Sheffield), Ph.D. Accounting (Sheffield), F.C.C.A, (Certified Accountant), CIPFA (Hon), FAcSS, started her career in the NHS where she qualified as an accountant, gaining experience in all aspects of NHS finance.

In 1981 she returned to full-time education completing a first degree in sociology as a mature student at the University of York. She held posts at Leeds Polytechnic and the University of Sheffield before moving to the University of Essex as Reader in Accounting in September 1995. She was appointed the first Professor of Accounting at the School of Management, Royal Holloway University of London in 1997 and served as Dean of History and Social Sciences (from 2000 to 2002) before taking the post of Vice- Principal (Academic Affairs) from 2002, which she held until 2004 when she became Senior Vice-Principal. In 2006 she moved to Roehampton University, London, taking the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost until her retirement in 2012. Jane is returning to Royal Holloway where she held a fractional post and is now Emerita Professor.
Jane has published extensively, as a sole and joint author, producing a wide range of international refereed academic journals, book chapters and professional publications, taking an interdisciplinary and critical perspective on management and accounting change with a specific emphasis on the public services.
She is on the editorial boards of many international journals and is the past Editor of Public Money and Management and one of the Associate Editors of Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal and the Journal of Accounting and Organizational Change. Jane has jointly (with Richard Laughlin) held a number of research grants with the Economic and Social Research Council, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and with the Australian Research Council. In April 2008, she received the British Accounting Association’s Distinguished Academic Award for her substantial and sustained contribution to the development of academic accounting.

(Fellow of the Higher Education Academy), FAcSS (Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences) started his career in a medium sized firm of Chartered Accountants before becoming a Consultant Accountant for a short while after qualification as an A.C.A.

In 1970 he entered full-time higher education for the first time to take a masters degree in accounting at the University of Birmingham. He joined the University of Sheffield as a Lecturer in Accounting and Financial Management in 1973. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 1990, Reader in 1990 and Professor in 1991. He moved to the University of Essex in 1995 as Professor of Accounting. In 1999 he was appointed Professor of Accounting in the Department of Management in King's College London, University of London. He was Head of Department from 1999 to 2002. He retired in 2010 and became Emeritus Professor of Accounting at King's. He has held many visiting academic appointments throughout his academic career in Australia, New Zealand, Kenya and Fiji. He has made numerous plenary and other presentations to workshops and conferences in the UK, Continental Europe, Canada, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Japan, Singapore, Fiji and Kenya.
Richard has published extensively as a sole and joint author in a wide-range of international refereed journals, in book chapters, in books and monographs and professional publications. In April 2005 he received the British Accounting Association’s Distinguished Academic Award for his substantial and sustained contribution to the development of academic accounting.
He is on the editorial boards of many international journals and is the Associate Editor of Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal and the Journal of Accounting and Organizational Change.
