Introduction

This special issue will contribute novel insights by focusing on the intersection of environmental innovation and sustainability challenges related to the 2030 Agenda. It will identify, explore and highlight gaps in existing knowledge about different contributions to the SDGs and the real effectiveness of the previously applied measurements, with particular attention to the role of decision-makers. The issue will encourage researchers to introduce new methods to measure and simplify SDG progress through composite indicators, enhancing the comparability of sustainability efforts across regions and sectors.

The special issue directly addresses societal challenges linked to climate change, poverty reduction, and social equity by aligning with several UN SDGs, including SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 13 (Climate Action). It will promote actionable solutions for local governments and businesses, driving progress in sustainability, corporate responsibility, and environmental governance. The issue aims to offer concrete tools and frameworks to guide both public and private sectors in their contributions to a more sustainable and equitable future.
