Introduction

The interconnected landscape of business, law and tourism is undergoing rapid transformation as technologies, social codes and relationships continue to blur traditional boundaries separating these fields. More integrative research spanning disciplines is called for to develop innovative frameworks, models and solutions for scholars, policymakers and practitioners.
A review of current literature reveals a multitude of complex, pressing issues arising from digital disruption that compel cross-disciplinary perspectives between business, legal and tourism scholars. For instance, unintended harms and ethical risks of new technologies require collaboration between tech companies, legal experts, regulators and civil society groups to find balanced solutions (Jacobs et al., 2021). Meanwhile, purpose-driven innovation strategies leveraging AI, Big Data analytics and other emerging tools can drive sustainability in many sectors of the economy (Bulchand-Gidumal et al., 2023).
Evolving power dynamics between organisations and individuals in online spaces also raise profoundly important legal questions around data privacy, labour rights and accountability that demand nuanced cross-disciplinary analysis (cf., Ebert et al., 2021). From a business ethics perspective as well, developing balanced governance of augmented reality, social media marketing and other immersive technologies requires thoroughly understanding diverse consumer viewpoints through an interdisciplinary lens (Khaw et al., 2022).
Moreover, realising the transformative benefits of blockchain, AI, robotics and other emerging technologies across finance, law, transportation, healthcare and other far-reaching domains will require very careful governance and close coordination between regulators, businesses and civil society groups (Javaid et al., 2022; Li et al., 2020). Responsible innovation pathways will demand not just technological expertise, but legal, ethical and social insights to draw up regulatory frameworks and innovative business models that serve public interests.
This special issue warmly welcomes theoretical and empirical contributions focused on these complex and dynamic issues, from both practitioners and scholars worldwide. Both conceptual and applied research can uncover highly original, cross-disciplinary frameworks, strategies and policy solutions for responsibly navigating contemporary opportunities and challenges. Contributions bridging academic debates and real-world developments are strongly encouraged to advance theoretical and practical foundations across these converging fields.
