Special issue: Concise literature reviews in entrepreneurship

The field of entrepreneurship research continues to grow and bring valuable insights for aspiring entrepreneurs, new ventures, and small business managers. With this outstanding progress, the field is also experiencing an expansion in its diversity of constructs, theories, industries, countries, business models, types of firms, and other topics of investigation. As the field continues to progress, it becomes increasingly important to bring order to this variety of emerging topics of interest, take stock of this rising knowledge, and highlight valuable opportunities for entrepreneurship scholars to continue the progress on these diverse topics. This may be particularly important for rising research topics in which publications are relatively low, but a critical review could not only spark future research but also provide clear directions on meaningful contributions.

Thus, through this special issue, NEJE aims to encourage authors to develop concise (6000 words) literature reviews that focus on synthesizing a specific entrepreneurship topic and providing clear guidance for future research. The focus of these systematic reviews can include, but is not limited to:

  • Reviews on emerging or established constructs in entrepreneurship research.
  • Reviews on entrepreneurship research covering specific theories.
  • Reviews on entrepreneurship research covering specific contexts.
  • Reviews synthesizing findings from specific entrepreneurship research methodologies.
  • Reviews on specific themes or frameworks.
  • Bibliometric reviews on entrepreneurship topics.
