Special Issue on Intelligent Transportation Systems: Autonomous System, Elastic Network, and Transportation Energy

Transportation system has been going to be smart, reliable, and green. The autonomous transportation system (ATS) is a new generation transportation system that integrates IoT, big data, artificial intelligence, advanced sensing technologies, automated piloting (e.g., drone), green energy, sustainable and resilient materials/structures together to achieve high quality traffic service and efficient operation.

Elastic traffic network is expected to analyze and utilize the various information for improving the intelligence and security of transportation systems. For example, through the vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), infrastructure-to-vehicle and vehicular-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications, which are the foundation and key support technologies determining the overall performance of transportation systems, road safety and traffic efficiency all need to be improved.

As the future trend, renewable energy and transportation integration will significantly change the form of traditional vehicles and transportation infrastructures. There have been great challenges to evaluate, analyze and predict the service quality and service life of renewable energy infrastructures in vehicles and transportation system associated with both traffic and climatic conditions.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include but are not limited to:

TOPIC 1: Autonomous Transportation System (ATS)

• Innovative networking architecture, infrastructure, techniques, and testbeds for autonomous rail/road/air/water transportation system
• Cognitive computing, affective computing, machine learning, and other novel tools, services, technologies, algorithms, and methods for data analysis in ATS
• Multi-modal information fusion in ATS
• ATS standardization and implementation challenges
• Edge-Cloud collaborative solutions to support ATS
• Cognitive and interactive interface for ATS

TOPIC 2: Elastic Traffic Network

• Cybersecurity analysis of sensor systems in traffic network
• Cybersecurity analysis of control system in traffic network
• Hardware security in vehicles and traffic infrastructures
• Security of communications in traffic network
• Intrusion and hacking models
• Anomaly detection models in traffic network

TOPIC 3: Energy and Transportation Integration

• Green and renewable energy technologies for transportation infrastructure and system
• Novel techniques for gas emission reduction, energy conservation in transportation infrastructure construction and maintenance
• System monitoring and assessment of the integrated network with renewable energy and electric vehicles
• Power transmission technology between vehicles and the power grid
• Methodologies for environmentally sustainable transportation applications
• Information and communication technologies for enabling and supporting trans-energy systems

Please submit your manuscript before the submission deadline. All submissions deemed suitable to be sent for peer review will be reviewed by at least two independent reviewers. We look forward to receiving your contributions.
