Introduction

This special issue will address several pressing societal challenges by focusing on energy solutions that contribute to sustainable development. Promoting access to clean and affordable energy will address SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and SDG 13 (Climate Action), which are crucial for mitigating climate change and improving livelihoods, particularly in underserved communities. Additionally, examining the social equity dimensions of energy access and distribution will contribute to SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality), ensuring that energy benefits are equitably distributed among diverse populations. Through interdisciplinary research and policy insights, the issue will provide actionable recommendations for policymakers and practitioners to address these challenges, ultimately advancing progress toward multiple SDGs and fostering a more sustainable and equitable future.
