Brief overview:

Drawing on interdisciplinary and international scholarship, this edited book would explore from both theoretical and practical perspectives the value of teaching global competencies. These essential competencies for 21st century learners include  emotional literacies, media literacy, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, global citizenship education, and transcultural learning. Global Competencies are multimodal, lifelong, and interconnected. Piancentini and Foster (2018) identify that the knowledge, skills, attitudes needed to work toward strengthening core global competencies will require  innovative curricula and creative learning strategies across the disciplines and educational levels. These authors highlight the importance of individuals being able to understand local, global, and intercultural issues. The ability to appreciate and understand issues such as cultural diversity, sustainability, human rights, and socio-political events from diverse perspectives challenges educators to re-vision curricula in ways that mobilise personal agency and positive social change.
