Emerald celebrates 7th Annual High Usage Awards

Bingley, United Kingdom, 7 February 2018 – Emerald Publishing have released the winners of the 7th annual Emerald High Usage Awards, listing the 20 global academic institutions that have received the highest number of eJournal downloads throughout 2017.

The Emerald High Usage Awards celebrate the relationship between Emerald and each winning institution; all of which have access to a growing collection of over 300 journals covering business and management research, and including a wide range of other subject areas Emerald specializes in, including health and social care; education; and engineering.

This year’s first place winner, still remaining in the top spot, is Universiti Teknologi MARA (Malaysia) exceeding their previous winning totals and passing the 1 million downloads mark with 1,143,941 downloads in 2017.

Second place continues to be held by EKB Data Centre (Egypt), who have also improved on 2016’s total with 573,892 downloads in 2017.

After entering the Top 20 in 9th place last year, this year’s third place winner is Universitas Trisakti (Indonesia) with 329,022 downloads.

This year has also seen three new entries to the Top 20, with Queensland University of Technology, Renmin University China and Universitas Indonesia all featuring in the list.

There have been notable position changes from the 2016 results, with Griffith University climbing from 20th to 7th place, University of West England climbing 2 places to 15th, and Liberty University taking 5th place back from University of Phoenix.

In addition to the first place award, Malaysian institutions placed twice more in the Top 20.  Five Australian institutions made the list, along with four from the United Kingdom and two from both the United States of America and Indonesia. Institutions from Egypt, Pakistan, China and Thailand also featured.
