One year on from Emerald’s acquisition of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Publishing portfolio, Emerald sponsored the International Geotechnical Innovation Conference (IGIC).

The conference took place on May 6th and 7th in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The theme of the conference  was to delve into the deep foundation design and construction requirements of enabling the safe, cost-efficient, and timely completion of projects.

The IGIC attracts over 400 delegates, including more than 30 industry-leading speakers and is an essential forum for academics and practitioners from the geotechnical engineering field.

Attending the IGIC opened up new opportunities to showcase the Emerald ICE Publishing portfolio as well as the authors within the field. An example of this is Professor Mohammed Zein Elabdin who was invited to speak about his research around the engineering legacy of the FIFA Qatar stadium and reuse as a driving force for sustainable stadium design.

The research was fitting for the theme and was well received by the organisers and attendees, highlighting the importance of researchers to document their work to continue advancing in the field.

Nadine Loulah, Regional Marketing Manager, Emerald Publishing said: “Through conferences like the IGIC, Emerald can highlight the real-world impact of the research we publish. We’re delighted that we were able to connect Professor Mohammed with the conference committee and it was fantastic to have him there to speak at the conference.”
