Emerald supports employee mental health by signing the Time to Change Pledge

8th April 2019

Bingley, United Kingdom, 8 April 2019 – As part of our commitment to supporting employee wellbeing and mental health, Emerald has signed the Time to Change Employer Pledge. Time to Change is an initiative led by charities Mind and Rethink Mental Illness with the aim of changing the way people think and act about mental health problems in the workplace.

Emerald is committed to breaking down barriers and encouraging conversation around mental health issues through initiatives such as our ‘Let’s talk about’ campaign – an internal programme that has seen various employees share their personal mental health journeys.  We also have a dedicated annual wellbeing week and are committed to providing vital resources such as Mental Health First Aiders, an employee assistance programme and a safe space to talk for all our employees.

Richard Bevan, Group Chairman said: “Creating the right environment to support good mental health and employee wellbeing is core to Emerald, and central to our belief that putting our people first will lead to a happier and more productive workplace.  Many people are affected by mental health issues to different degrees, and over different periods of time – our responsibility is to recognise the positive benefits of diversity, create an environment of inclusivity, and offer support and flexible working practices for those who need and will benefit from it.”

Time to Change report that 1 in 4 people are affected by conditions such as anxiety, depression and stress every year, with mental health being the leading cause of sickness absence in the UK.  By signing this pledge, Emerald hopes to show its commitment to breaking down barriers across the Group, proactively tackling the stigma that surrounds mental health.
