Dutch institutions to benefit from increased open access publication

Dutch institutions to benefit from increased open access publication and a growing collection of social science research thanks to a ‘read and publish’ deal agreed with Emerald for the next two years

Via the SURF consortium, Dutch universities will benefit from open access publication at no additional charge, and a growing collection of research supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

14 of the leading academic institutions in the Netherlands will have access to an extensive collection of research supporting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals over the next two years, thanks to a deal struck by the SURF consortium and Emerald.

As part of the forward-looking ‘read and publish’ deal, authors at those institutions will be able to publish an increasing number of open access articles at no additional charge in Emerald publications, supporting the Netherlands’ national open access mandate and demonstrating Emerald’s commitment to ‘being open to open’. This includes publication on the new Emerald Open Research platform launched earlier this year.

Emerald Open Research is a new and pioneering way to rapidly publish a range of research outputs, from original research articles to case studies and data notes. With open peer review controlled by the author and an open data policy, research will be freely available to read, download and reuse, reaching a truly broad audience.

The 14 libraries will be able to tailor their resources and budgets to their respective institutions’ needs.
