Bingley, United Kingdom, 1 August 2018 – Emerald has recently joined The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) Bookshare service to provide print-disabled students within UK institutions, with the same educational opportunities as their peers.
The RNIB Bookshare service provides institutions with access to educational materials they have previously purchased in print form, to students with a print disability, such as Dyslexia or sight loss. These materials have been adapted to suit print disabled readers’ needs; including the ability to hear and see highlighted words on screen; read with digital braille or enlarged fonts; create physical braille or large print; read directly from an internet browser, as well as other formats.
Emerald is committed to making sure the research we publish makes an impact in the real world, and part of this pledge is making it accessible to all. By partnering with the RNIB Bookshare scheme, users with a print disability can access the content they want, quickly and in the format they personally need to successfully support their work.
Laura Wilson, Head of Rights at Emerald said: “Partnering with the RNIB Bookshare Scheme is an exciting stage of our social responsibility initiative. Ensuring that we’re able to provide accessible books quickly, allows print-disabled students the ability to continue their studies at the same time as everyone else - which is an extremely important factor in anyone’s research journey.”
