The International Journal of Human Rights in Healthcare (IJHRH) will mark its 10th anniversary with the launch of a special issue on the topic of ‘Physical and Mental Health of Children and Young People’ at an event hosted by Rt Hon MP Norman Lamb at the House of Commons on 12 October 2017.

IJHRH is an international, peer-reviewed journal with a unique practical approach to promoting equality, inclusion and human rights in health and social care.

The launch will be attended by IJHRH Editor-in-Chief, Dr Theo Gavrielides (Founder and Director of The IARS International Institute and the Founder and co-Director of the Restorative Justice for All Institute); co-editors of the special issue, Dr Deborah Christie (Department of Child and Adolescent Psychological Services, University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust) and Dr Lee Hudson (Consultant General Paediatrician, Great Ormond Street Hospital); and a number of selected guests.

Launch event host Rt Hon MP Norman Lamb has been Member of Parliament for North Norfolk and chair of the Science and Technology Select Committee since 2001.

Professor Theo Gavrielides - Editor-in-Chief of IJHRH - said: “Human rights in social and healthcare remain under the radar of research, policy and practice internationally.

“Research has proved that what patients value the most is not the professionalism and knowledge of the provider, but dignity, equality and respect. We tend to picture social and healthcare providers as faceless institutions of power. And yet, when we get to directly experience them, we realize that it all comes down to the mind-set of the doctor, nurse, receptionist and social worker who served us.

“I am grateful to the publisher, the authors and all those who supported me in making the IJHRH a true leader in bridging the gaps in this much-neglected area for 10 years, and look forward to another successful decade”.

IJHRH publishes scholarly and double blind peer-reviewed papers of the highest standard, including case studies and book reviews.

IJHRH aims to explore what is currently known about discrimination and disadvantage, with a particular focus on health and social care.

The journal also pushes the barriers of the race equality discourse by identifying new avenues for practice and policy, and creates bridges between policymakers, practitioners and researchers; and identifies and attempts to understand the social determinants of health equity and practical interventions in to overcome barriers.

The journal (including the special issue) will be available online free from 12 - 31 October 2017 by using the following link and registering your details: http://bit.ly/2xTz91H
