Celebrating Emerald’s Annual High Usage Awards 2020

8th June 2020

The top 20 global academic institutions with the highest number of downloads of Emerald’s eJournal content throughout 2019 have been announced as part of the 10th annual High Usage Awards; celebrating the relationship between Emerald and the winning institutions, whilst also highlighting the global reach and impact of our research.

This year, the institutions in the top three positions are Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia remaining in the top spot with 550,891 downloads, followed by the Egyptian Knowledge Bank Data Centre holding the second place once again with 479,135 downloads. This year sees a new institution taking the third-place position with 297,515 downloads coming from Liberty University in Texas, USA.

Laura Ingle, Head of Product and Institutional Marketing at Emerald spoke of the value of the awards, saying “The High Usage Awards provide us with the opportunity to reward the loyalty of our customers, highlighting the value of our relationships with institutions and academics from around the world. Furthermore, they offer us an opportunity to celebrate the global reach and high quality of our research and the work undertaken by all of the authors, editors, and peer reviewers.”

Laura further commented on the importance the business places on driving real-world impact from research, saying “Emerald is committed to making research that benefits society visible and easy to discover for the widest possible audience. That’s why, in July 2019, we launched the new award-winning Emerald Insight platform that has been entirely reimagined and rebuilt. It was co-developed, in conjunction with universities from around the world, so that the platform is uniquely tailored and provides an invaluable tool for academics, librarians, and students alike. Every decision was tested and validated in partnership with our communities to ensure it makes both researchers’ and readers’ lives easier, and so makes research more discoverable.”

At present we are living in a difficult and uncertain time around the world, as we face the fight against Covid-19. Now, more than ever, people need quick and easy online access to the information we publish on Emerald Insight and the opportunities to share their research, and we are keen to ensure that all of our users have access to research, even if institutions are closed. To help with any issues, and keep people up to date with new information we launched our Customer Support Portal

We have made research on COVID-19, the management of epidemics and pandemics, and supply chain management free for anyone to access and have also made this available with full text and data mining rights to PubMed Central and the World Health Organisation repository. We will continue to make relevant research freely available on this site.
