Introduction:
During the pandemic of COVID-19, most schools conduct the online education to guarantee the teaching in real-time. In addition, there are also many high-education institutes exploiting virtual reality and augment reality technologies to achieve that all students can make an immersive experience and thus enhance the education quality. Even so, the online education based on
communication network always faces two challenges. On one hand, the high response time due to the transmission among different regions causes the non-real-time education awareness.
On the other hand, the instability of communication causes the bad quality of experience for the users. Edge computing and Artificial Intelligence (AI) related technologies can address them to improve the whole education quality and level. Specifically, edge computing can offload the complex tasks included in the education process to the edge server for computation in order to reduce the computation overhead and increase the response speed of online education. AI can help analyze such education data and present the stable communication mode. For example, deep learning or neural network can be used to train huge amounts of communication data related to the online education. Therefore, this special issue focuses on advanced education improvement with edge computing and AI.
