Call for Book Reviews

Journal of Management History invites scholars to contribute book reviews that critically engage with recent publications in management history, business thought, leadership theory, and the evolution of economic systems. We welcome reviews of books that explore historical perspectives on management, entrepreneurship, organizational theory, and the role of free markets in shaping business practices.

Book reviews should provide a concise summary of the work’s key arguments, assess its scholarly contributions, and situate it within broader academic debates. We particularly encourage reviews that highlight books offering new insights into historical management thought or challenge conventional perspectives.  Some of the topics we are interested in include:

  • Historical analyses of management practices, leaders, and organizations.
  • Biographies and memoirs of influential figures in the history of management.
  • Works exploring management theories and concepts.
  • Books that connect management history to broader social, political, and economic contexts.
  • Publications on the history of management in different global and cultural settings.
  • Books on contemporary management practices and theories, examining the intersection of history with current trends in areas such as leadership, organizational behavior, strategic management, innovation, and digital transformation.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Reviews should generally be 1,000–1,500 words and follow APA 7th edition formatting.
  • Submissions must include full citation details of the book, a brief summary, critical analysis, and relevance to management history.

Emerald guidelines on how to write a book review can be found here.
