Introduction
The “Future of Housing” Special Issue assembles and synthesizes new and impactful knowledge on strategies for sustainable housing in Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia, with a particular emphasis on collective housing. It contributes to interdisciplinary literature on collective housing and extends it through documenting and theorising innovative transitions in collective housing in Australia and Aotearoa. The special issue includes papers exploring new and old knowledges, tools, and strategies designed to enhance housing provision, quality, and affordability. It also develops theory around housing, care, commons and collectives that extends the work done internationally, and challenges it with ideas emerging from the specific contexts of Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia, including from Indigenous and migrant communities.
