Introduction
Archival institutions and libraries continue to serve as strategic pillars for knowledge production, cultural preservation, and socio-economic development. In the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution—characterized by Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data analytics, and digital transformation—their role has evolved from passive custodianship toward governance-driven value creation within knowledge ecosystems.
Conventional performance measurement approaches, traditionally grounded in quantitative and qualitative input/output indicators, are increasingly insufficient to capture multidimensional impact or ensure long-term institutional sustainability. Contemporary environments require intelligent, outcome-oriented, and evidence-based evaluation frameworks capable of assessing intellectual value, socio-economic contribution, and institutional resilience.
This Special Issue—stemming from the SPE-DIL 2026 International Conference—provides a scholarly platform for advancing theoretical, methodological, and applied research on sustainable performance evaluation in documentary institutions and libraries. It invites rigorous empirical and conceptual contributions exploring the integration of international standards, governance frameworks, AI-driven analytics, and sustainable impact measurement systems.
The aim is to support the transition from traditional measurement paradigms to intelligent performance ecosystems that enhance transparency, accountability, strategic decision-making, and long-term value creation within the knowledge economy.
