Benchmarking: An International Journal (BIJ) invites applications for its Early Career Reviewer Board (ECRB). This initiative is designed to engage promising early career scholars in the editorial activities of the journal, support their development as reviewers and future editorial leaders, and strengthen BIJ’s international pool of qualified reviewers.
The ECRB will provide an opportunity for emerging scholars to contribute to the journal’s peer-review process, increase their understanding of editorial standards and participate in the development of the BIJ scholarly community.
About the journal
BIJ is aimed to be a source of theoretical and application techniques for scholars and practitioners, so organizations acquire information and background knowledge to benchmark their performance and identify the best practices in organizational management.
The journal publishes high-quality research by academic and industry contributors that advances the understanding and application of benchmarking, performance metrics, and best practices to enhance business processes and organizational performance.
BIJ welcomes research in operations management, productivity, performance evaluation, and benchmarking across firms, sectors, or countries, as well as related areas that support decision-making and continuous improvement in organizations.

The role of the Early Career Reviewer
Responsibilities
As strong believers in positive change and impact, BIJ has decided to develop an Early Career Reviewer Board (ECRB) to give Early Career Researchers the means to participate within a journal publishing environment and to be involved in developing BIJ for the community along with the Editor and Editorial Board Members.
Early Career Reviewer Board members will be expected to:
- Review manuscripts submitted to BIJ under the guidance and standards of the journal.
- Provide timely, constructive and developmental reviews.
- Support the identification of emerging topics and research communities relevant to BIJ.
- Promote BIJ among early career researchers, doctoral networks, conferences and academic communities.
- Encourage high-quality submissions aligned with BIJ’s aims and scope.
- Provide feedback to the editorial team when requested.
- Participate, where appropriate, in journal initiatives, special issue promotion or community-building activities.
Editorial Development and Progression
The Early Career Reviewer Board is intended as a developmental pathway for promising scholars. Outstanding members who demonstrate commitment, reliability and high-quality reviewing may be considered for future promotion to the Editorial Board.
In the longer term, highly active and academically established members may also be considered for future appointment as Associate Editors, depending on their reviewing performance, publication record, subject expertise, international profile and the journal’s editorial needs.
This pathway reflects BIJ’s commitment to developing the next generation of editorial leaders in benchmarking, performance measurement, operations management and organizational performance research.
