Virtual Issue: WALS 2025 Conference - Tsunagu in Hiroshima

International Journal for Lesson and Learning Studies

Welcome to the third virtual issue of the International Journal for Lesson and Learning Studies (IJLLS), where we have selected previously published papers that are relevant to tsunagu (connect). Our goal with the virtual issue is to connect our lesson study community, especially the WALS members present at the conference, with work that addresses aspects of the conference theme. We also want to help WALS members build a relationship with the journal by encouraging them to interact with journal content through downloads, citations, reviews, and submissions.

This virtual issue includes seven papers. Together, they address issues for lesson and learning studies that relate to connection, be it cross-cultural or within teams of teachers working locally. We have several papers that connect Japanese lesson study practice to practices in other countries: Singapore, Germany, England, Spain, and Mongolia. This rich landscape is one way to reflect the opportunities for connection within the conference and among authors, reviewers, and readers of the journal. We have included papers that research lesson study with in-service teachers in schools, as well as those that work within teacher education. We included Mynott’s matrix specifically because of its humble call for further research in facilitation and its applicability for supporting the kinds of collaboration that leads to connection among and across teams of teachers in lesson study. We hope this issue helps each reader build their personal knowledge of lesson study and encourages you to participate in the journal!
