Aims and scope

The International Journal of Ethics and Systems is a peer-reviewed academic journal for practitioners and scientists interested in the ethical and moral aspects of economic, social and political systems. Its objective is to focus on international ethics-related research that assists academics, ethics scholars, business managers, public administrators and scientists in their research and ethical decision making in business and politics. All submissions to the journal must have an underpinning of aspects related to ethics, responsibility and legitimacy of systems.

The journal publishes original research articles, critical discussion papers, and reviews that revolve around a wide range of questions that can be grouped into main areas of interest, including but not limited to ethics-based studies of:

  • Systems, organizations, institutions and their human, social, ecological, and economic impact
  • Interdisciplinary perspective on theories and philosophies underlying economic, social and political systems
  • Humanities-based alternatives to current systems.

Ethical understanding of systems, organizations, institutions

What are the ethical and moral mechanisms, causes and effects of systems, such as social and ecological systems, markets, organizations, industries, and supply chains, which are increasingly complex, computational, unstable, and asymmetric in their power distribution? How do they reconfigure the human ethical values and operate as mechanisms for the validation of truth? What varieties of losses are incurred through these systems, including knowledge losses? How instrumental are such systems in supporting ethics and morality, cost-shifting and the redistribution of income?

Such critical research includes:

  • Ethics, responsibility, and legitimacy
  • Leadership and business ethics.

Philosophical aspects of systems, organizations and institutions

What are the ethical commitments undergirding present systems’ dynamics? What are the political movements, thought collectives, organizations and networks that promulgate them? What is the role of business, political and economic science? How can systems be more ethically sustainable and ecological? How can philosophy contribute to a critical understanding of ethics in systems? We welcome ethical studies based on:

  • Philosophy of management and business philosophy
  • Philosophy of economics and political systems
  • Ethical judgment and decision-making in systems.

Towards ethical, economic and political economic systems

What alternative traditions of thought can create more ethical systems and even transform these systems? What ontologies, epistemologies and methodologies are suitable for a critical understanding of the ethics of systems? What visions of philosophy, economy and economic reasoning emerge and can be gathered from the humanities? How can these visions be translated into politics and practice? In particular, what is the potential of the substantive meaning of economy and politics for normative, holistic, and institutional approach to ethics? Keywords for ethical approaches are:

  • Ethics in different theories of institutions and organizations
  • Responsible management and moral compass of administrative professions
  • Ethical economy and institutional responsibility.
