Call for Practitioner/Industry Papers

Engineering History and Heritage

Engineering History and Heritage invites practitioner-focused submissions!

About the Journal

JENHH publishes work on the conservation, restoration, adaptation, and appraisal of historic and existing infrastructure, with coverage that spans major public works, historic and cultural structures, materials, fabrication techniques, and engineering heritage practice. The journal regularly features studies illustrating how modern techniques can be applied to understand, preserve, or re-purpose historical built environments.

Invitation to Practitioners

This invitation is to encourage contributions from practising engineers, conservation specialists, surveyors, heritage consultants, technologists, and contractors who work directly with historic or existing infrastructure. We seek papers that translate practical challenges and applied solutions into knowledge that can inform both professional practice and academic discourse.

Topics of Interest

We welcome practitioner papers that focus on (but are not limited to):

  • Real-world case studies involving heritage conservation, structural appraisal, or refurbishment of historic buildings and infrastructure
  • Application of modern techniques—digital documentation, pixel-matching, AI-enabled assessment, advanced structural diagnostics—to heritage contexts
  • Materials-focused investigations, including traditional materials (brick, timber, stone, iron, early concrete) and modern interventions
  • Construction methodologies used in adaptive reuse, restoration, or retrofitting of older structures
  • Lessons learned from project delivery, heritage compliance, interdisciplinary collaboration, or community engagement
  • Long-term monitoring, maintenance, or resilience planning for historic assets
  • Policy, standards, and regulatory challenges encountered in practice
  • Ethical and cultural considerations in engineering heritage decision-making
  • Reflections and innovation on industry best practice.
