About the Conference

The International Conference on Responsible Tourism and Hospitality (ICRTH) is an academic cum professional (industry) event that aims to advance the discourse on responsible tourism for sustainable development. More than just an event, ICRTH is an avenue that brings tourism and hospitality stakeholders, including public sectors, private companies, academic institutions, associations, and local communities together to share resources, network and build collaborations.

The Responsible Tourism Awards in Southeast Asia (RT Awards) 2026 is organized by ICRT-SEA in collaboration with Responsible Borneo (REBORN) and ICRT Global. The primary goal of these awards is to unearth, acknowledge, and promote good practice in the tourism sector. These prestigious awards demonstrate how nature and travel are fostering transformation and spearheading innovative initiatives centered around welfare and sustainability for tourism.

Responsible Tourism (RT) is closely connected with the discourses on sustainable tourism, regeneration, and resilience, while its formal conceptualisation was established through the 2002 Cape Town Declaration and reaffirmed by the 2022 Responsible Tourism Charter at Magna Carta Island. Together, these frameworks affirm tourism’s role as a driver of sustainable development, inclusive growth, and meaningful impact for people and the planet. More on these global frameworks can be found at the Responsible Tourism Partnership UK.

Responsible Tourism Fieldwork

To put responsible actions into practice, an optional post-conference activity or Responsible Tourism fieldwork will be arranged to wrap up ICRTH 2026. The fieldwork is a good avenue to put responsible tourism into practice and build connections and networking among the delegates and community.

On the first day (10 July), participants will visit the Niah National Park, located at Miri, Sarawak. Renowned for its rich biodiversity and archaeological significance, the park is home to the famous Niah Caves, where prehistoric human remains and ancient cave paintings were discovered. Its lush rainforest, unique limestone formations, and diverse wildlife make it a treasured natural and cultural heritage site.

On the second day (11 July), participants will be offered a choice of three local destinations. These destinations will showcase community-based initiatives, heritage attractions, and sustainable practices that align with responsible tourism values. Participants will select one destination based on their interests. The list of destinations will be confirmed and announced in due course.
