Aims and scope

The Journal of Small Business and Enterprise Development (JSBED) advances theory, practice, and policy by publishing scholarly contributions in the area of entrepreneurship.

JSBED publishes rigorous and bold entrepreneurship research, with the aim of bringing its contributions and implications worldwide to scholars, practitioners, policymakers, students, and the entrepreneurial leaders of today and tomorrow.

We welcome the submission of manuscripts representing a wide spectrum of approaches and formats, including theory-based research, large-scale empirical studies, pedagogical scholarship, dialectics and debates, engaging provocative questions with evidence, rigorous summaries of best practices, regional and international studies, and more.

Papers accepted for publication at JSBED will have been double-blind peer-reviewed by the Editorial Board and examined by multiple levels of the Editorial Team. Additionally, to promote the relevance of the papers it publishes, JSBED employs an Entrepreneur and Practitioner Advisory Board, composed of entrepreneurs and members of entrepreneurial teams, which offers feedback on the practical implications of manuscripts prior to publication.

Submissions likely to be reviewed favourably at JSBED must have strong conceptual or theoretical foundations. Any empirical research methods must be linked rationally and appropriately to those foundations and also executed properly. Finally, JSBED places a high value on papers that make bold claims and promise to have a large and lasting impact on their realm of focus within the field of entrepreneurship.

Example topics of papers suitable for submission to JSBED include:

  • International entrepreneurship that transcends boundaries
  • Entrepreneurship education and pedagogy
  • Technology entrepreneurship and technology commercialisation
  • Family business contexts and generational entrepreneurship
  • Social enterprise, community-based research, and impact

Authors are encouraged to carefully put manuscripts into the proper format using the Emerald Publishing formatting guidelines. To promote a standard and professional formal review process, submitting authors may be asked to reformat manuscripts before the submissions can be reviewed fully at JSBED.
