Announcement of the

Meditari Accountancy Research Conference 2026

to be held by the Accounting & Finance Department, University of Leeds, Leeds, United Kingdom

3-4 September 2026

We welcome high-quality research papers across all areas of accounting, including but not limited to:

  • corporate governance and accountability;
  • ethics and corporate social responsibility;
  • all forms of sustainability reporting/accounting;
  • audit and assurance;
  • regulation of the accounting and auditing profession;
  • public sector accounting, assurance and governance;
  • the relevance and application of emerging forms of technology for accounting and auditing
  • accounting/assurance history
  • matters related to the accounting profession

We encourage submissions using a variety of methodologies—qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-method—offering fresh perspectives on critical issues in the field.

Plenary Speakers

Josephine Jackson is the Director of International Audit and Assurance Standards Policy at the UK Financial Reporting Council (FRC), where she also leads the FRC’s ESG Group. In her role, she is responsible for audit quality initiatives, including the development of audit and assurance standards and guidance in the UK. Before joining the FRC, she served as Director of Audit Technical at Grant Thornton. Earlier in her career, she spent 15 years with PricewaterhouseCoopers, joining the firm in 1993 and working in its audit practice until 2008. She has also served as a Technical Advisor to former IAASB members Susan Jones and Marek Grabowski.

Professor Christine Cooper is Chair in Accounting at the University of Edinburgh Business School. A globally renowned critical accounting scholar, she explores how accounting shapes our daily lives. Formerly at the University of Strathclyde, her work spans public policy, social justice, and corporate accountability. She is Co-Editor-in-Chief of Critical Perspectives on Accounting and a recipient of the BAFA Lifetime Achievement Award. Professor Cooper regularly advises NGOs, contributes to policy, and speaks internationally.

Professor Laurence Ferry is an award-winning scholar in Accounting for Democracy at Durham University Business School. He is Founding Director of the International Centre of Public Accountability and a global authority on public financial management. Laurence advises governments and international bodies on audit and accountability, and his research has shaped UK and global policy. A Senior Fellow of the HEA and a Fellow of CIPFA, he also co-directs the Durham Rutgers Accounting Analytics Network.

Professor Yannis Tsalavoutas is Professor of Accounting and Finance at the University of Glasgow’s Adam Smith Business School. His research focuses on IFRS-based financial reporting and disclosure, with publications in The British Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, Accounting and Business Research, and Journal of Business Finance & Accounting. He founded the Adam Smith Observatory of Corporate Reporting Practices and serves on editorial boards and advisory panels, including for ACCA, ICAS, and UKEB.

Submission Process

The conference organisers welcome both full papers and abstracts.

Full papers

Full papers (including in-progress submissions/working papers) should be submitted via e-mail to: [email protected] with “Meditari Conference 2026 Full Paper” as the subject.

  • Please refer to the author guidelines: https://www.emeraldgrouppublishing.com/journal/medar
  • The first page should include the title and the names and affiliations of all the authors.
  • The second page should repeat the paper title and include the abstract and keywords. No author details should be included from page 2 onwards.
  • Papers can be submitted in Word or PDF.
  • Submissions will undergo a double-blind peer review.
  • Accepted papers will be presented during 30-minute parallel sessions.
  • Selected papers may be invited for submission to Meditari Accountancy Research.
Abstracts

Abstracts for early-stage/in-progress research should be submitted via e-mail to: [email protected] with “Meditari Conference 2026 Early Project” as the subject.

  • The submission should include a title followed by the names and affiliations of all authors and a structured abstract of no more than 300 words with the purpose, method and expected implications/contributions of the project.
  • Submissions should be in Word or PDF.
  • The conference organisers will send comments. Abstracts will not be double-blind reviewed.
  • Accepted abstracts will be presented during group sessions with 10 minutes allocated to each abstract.

Venue

The Meditari Accountancy Research Conference 2026 will be held on the University of Leeds campus. Most sessions will take place in the Leeds University Business School’s Maurice Keyworth Building, located on Moorland Road, Leeds LS6 1AN.

Leeds is an accessible and attractive destination for both international and UK-based delegates attending the Meditari Accountancy Research Conference 2026. International visitors can arrive via Leeds Bradford Airport, just a short journey from the city centre, or through Manchester Airport, which offers extensive global connections and direct rail links to Leeds. For UK travellers, the city boasts excellent rail services with fast, frequent connections to London, Edinburgh, and other major cities. Once here, visitors can explore Leeds’ rich cultural and historical offerings, including the world-class Royal Armouries Museum, the medieval ruins of Kirkstall Abbey, and the acclaimed Leeds Grand Theatre.
