Celebrating 30 years of SENSE

Nutrition & Food Science

The SENSE (Self Employed Nutritionists' Support and Enlightenment) group is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.

SENSE is the original network of professional nutrition consultants who work on a self employed basis, founded by Dr Margaret Ashwell OBE. They aim to help and promote self-help of all self-employed or freelance nutrition professionals. You can find more information on SENSE and their history on the SENSE website.

Dr Ashwell published SENSE's inaugural paper 'You know it makes SENSE!' with Nutrition & Food Science in 1998. The paper summarised the reasons behind SENSE's formation, discussed the pros and cons of self-employment, and provided points of contact for potential SENSE members and users.

This article will be free to access for one month from 1st May 2026 in celebration of SENSE's anniversary.
